LAFAYETTE, LA – With most of them claiming that they just want things to go back to how they used to be, a new poll released today shows that 93% of area residents are yearning for a simpler time when the I-10 was closed everyday due to a wreck.
Emotions are high and many residents are reminiscing about the better days in and around Acadiana. When cycling down roads was an extreme sport and when Saturday night fights on Jefferson Street were sort of endearing.
Businesses in the area are slowly starting to reopen, but for the most part life in the area has changed into something that nobody is used to.
Area resident Roger McIntyre – one of the 93% mentioned in the poll – explains his current situation.
“Honestly I just want to feel rage again”, he said, “I want to feel anger at someone I don’t even know for being a dumbass driver and closing the I-10 in both directions for three hours, when I know that I need to use it and now need to detour.
I need to see that KATC notification pop-up on my phone. I never thought I’d hear myself saying all of this, but here we are. These are strange times and I just can’t wait for everything to go back to as normal as possible.
I guess you don’t know how good you have things until they’re gone. I almost want to just get everyone to stop at mile marker 108 and cause a four mile backup just so I can feel some sort of inner peace.”
Normality in the area isn’t expected to return for a long time yet, according to experts. But area residents continue to live in hope.
