LAFAYETTE, LA – In what local establishments are calling “a crushing blow for business”, popular classifieds website Craigslist has removed its personals section and sent I-10 truck stops and hotels alike into panic mode.
The businesses, which see a large portion of their income from horny cross-country truck drivers looking for a quick hookup, often posted their inquiries in the M4M section of the website.
But thanks to US Congress passing HR 1865, “FOSTA” which is aimed at stopping online sex trafficking, those classified sections have now been removed, leaving these in-need big rig drivers out of luck when it comes to “winding down” after an eight hour drive.
“We’re already seeing business fall dramatically thanks to this new bill”, explained Leslie Barnett, manager of the Shady Days Motel located on exit 101 near the Waffle House, “Truck drivers from here and afar would regularly stop here and rent rooms out for the night after finding each other on Craigslist. It gets lonely on those roads.”
“Now all we’re getting are cross-country vacationing families every 3-4 days because the husband forgot to book a room beforehand. It’s a real downturn.”
“Hopefully a new door will open but we’re not optimistic.”
