LAFAYETTE, LA – With LCG announcing major job cuts last month with the elimination of 99 positions, Mayor Josh Guillory announced further layoffs this evening with prominent local employee Alfred Mouton being forced to retire after 98 years.
Mouton, who began his tenure at LCG in 1922, was asked to retire this afternoon. It is believed he has opted to receive the generous retirement plan that local government workers are eligible to receive.
A well known personality in the area, Mouton has worked tirelessly since he began working at LCG and always gave 100% in standing on the column in Downtown Lafayette. Many have remarked that there was nobody better to do the job, and have often commented that he was an “expert folder of his arms while having a stoic expression on his face”.
Area residents have also commented on the ever-immaculate condition of his beard.
However his performance has allegedly been slipping in recent years, and it seems that Guillory has now acted upon this displeasure of locals by showing him the door – perhaps with the possibility of bringing someone else in to fill the position. This however is yet to be confirmed.
As of this evening, Mr. Mouton has been unavailable for comment, however insider reports suggest that he is looking to move to rural Tennessee where he would be welcomed with open arms for a comfortable retirement.
