LAFAYETTE, LA – He’s had a run. A great run – but all runners tire eventually. Unless they go on to win the race. But, well, MacKenzie never, as our home-grown hero last night bowed out of American Idol despite a familiar valiant effort.
Not even his fantastic rendition of Zachary Richard’s ‘Who Stole My Monkey‘ could save him from the chopping block this week, as judges and voters alike seemed to prefer the other three contestants – who coincidentally all sang renditions of Happy Birthday To You.
But with every cloud comes a silver lining, as MacKenzie used his final thank you’s to announce that he will be immediately returning to Lafayette to embark on a McKinley Street mega-tour, affectionately named the ‘MacKenzie Does McKinley 2016 Tour’.
The tour will see Bourg play at some of McKinley Street’s top venues such as The Keg and The Loose Caboose. In fact, they’re the only two venues on the schedule, as he plans to just keep switching back and forth between them for the full duration of the month.
He spoke briefly backstage, explaining that he’s disappointed but excited for the future.
“I’m super bummed to be leaving American Idol at this stage”, he said, “But I can’t wait to get back home and begin the tour of a lifetime. Doing the McKinley Street rounds is something I’ve dreamed about my whole life, and I’m actually getting to live it. It’s the pinnacle of any musicians career so I can’t complain. Nobody remembers those first-place assholes anyway. Hows Caleb Johnson doing these days? Yeah, I thought so.”
A full schedule of dates for the tour is to be released in the coming days.
