LAFAYETTE, LA – With Festival International de Louisiana just over a week away, festival organizers have emailed each and every performer reminding them of their contractual obligation to perform at least one cover of ‘Toto’ by Africa.
The request is being made in an effort to “include a recognizable song with legendary status that people of all ages can enjoy”, according to those in charge.
An excerpt of the email was obtained by The Daily Crawfish:
Dear valued FIL2018 performer,
With Festival International de Louisiane 2018 a mere week away, we are emailing to remind you of your contractual obligation to perform at least one cover of Toto’s 1982 smash hit ‘Africa’ in your set.
We ask you to do this primarily because, well, it’s a recognizable song with legendary status that people of all ages can enjoy. It’s Africa by Toto, for God’s sake. Do we really need to give a reason other than that?
The song can be covered in any musical genre of your choosing, however please do ensure that you include that cool pre-chorus drum part so that festival goers can hype themselves up for the “IT’S GONNA TAKE A LOT TO TAKE ME AWAYYYY FROM YOUUU” line.
The ad libs and fillers are always a welcome addition too.
We look forward to having you in Lafayette!
Festival International de Louisiane begins next Wednesday and continues through until the Sunday.
