LAFAYETTE, LA –  Late on Saturday night, while licking their wounds from yet another defensive collapse, the Lousiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns announced that controversial defensive coordinator, Ray Charles, had been relieved of his duties.

The UL defense has leaked a total of 215 points in just four games, and the pressure has finally told on Charles. Speaking outside Cajun Field after being informed of the firing, a surprised Charles said he “didn’t see it coming”, before stumbling onto West Congress and narrowly avoiding a collision with a lamppost.

During his post-match interview, Head Coach Mark Hudspeth was downbeat, saying he was “upset and disappointed” that Coach Charles’ time with the team hadn’t been more of a success. The Head Coach explained, “every sign pointed to Ray being the perfect man to lead our defense.”

Hudspeth continued, “it takes a strong-willed man to wear sunglasses during a job interview, and although he didn’t read the playbook, his infectious smile and enthusiasm really rubbed off on the players”.

The Ragin’ Cajuns will be hoping to have a new defensive coordinator in place before they visit Idaho next Saturday, with Helen Keller thought to be high on their list of potential replacements.
